White and Black win percentages are based only on games played as that side. Draw percentages are based on all games.

The Edge Adjusted Leader compensates for imbalance in the side played. Up to a 2.5% boost may be applied to equalize the number of games and normalize the win percentage.

Methodology

The Chess Outcome Analyzer calculates cumulative win percentages over time for games played as White, Black, and Draws. Win percentages are based solely on games played from each side, while draws are counted across all games.

When there is a significant imbalance in how often one side is played, a dynamic boost is applied to the side with less games to prevent skewed win percentage margins. For example, if 16 more games have been played as White, Black's win percentage margin will receive a small boost during edge-adjusted leader calculations to compensate for underrepresentation.

This adjustment starts when the difference reaches 5 games or more. It scales based on how wide the imbalance is, from a minor 0.5% to a maximum of 2.5%. If the number of games played as White and Black is nearly even (less than 5 apart), no adjustment is applied. The boost applied to the side with less games, scales the imbalance in games played, starting at 0% for differences of 0 to 4 games, increasing to 0.5% for 5 to 7 games, 1.0% for 8 to 11 games, 1.75% for 12 to 15 games, and maxing out at 2.5% for a 16 or more game difference.

Example: If 12 more games were played as Black than White, White receives a 1.75% adjustment when determining the edge-adjusted leader.
